Presidents before Bush felt they could go overseas and bask in the respect, indeed admiration, of citizens of the countries they visited -- thus compensating at least emotionally for the lack of respect they felt at home. Now, our poor President is despised even more so overseas than he is at home. His trip to South America the most recent example. Even Nixon, a few months away from his resignation, was able to visit foreign countries and to receive accolades and enthusiastic greetings from the citizens of countries he visited. How, many foreigners wondered, could Americans look with such disfavor at Nixon? Bush the senior is held in high esteem overseas. And Clinton is truly revered everywhere, at home and abroad. All of which leads to the question: Has it occured to Bush that he's wrong in so many ways? Admittedly, I've railed and ranted about this man, but I still harbor the feeling that, no matter the thickness of his skin combined with a stubbornness beyond belief, he must wonder while tossing and turning in his bed at night -- " Why does everybody hate me?" About Laura I have to ask -- what does she see in this guy? Has Laura told W why everybody hates him. The one book I'd really like to read about W's Presidency is Laura's, telling the truth.
